A poem about Triumph — Photograph by Polyna Firer

You promised me rain.

I had no notion of dryness.
The air around me magic
Cosmic rays cascading
A lack of concentrating

You told me I could bend

The space around me
Was never straight
Dancing with the spirit waves
Leaning in to gentle smiles

I saw the turning backs

As I discovered more
About the life I found within
Solar pleasures overtake
Baking in the confidence of love

I thought that I would miss a beat

Open arms wash away my fall
Ready to receive
As my heart remains
Forever mine

Sometimes I still remember

How voices darken
When scary fear comes out to play
Remnants of old evils
Starving more and owning less

How I love you

Despite that frosty distance
Millions of memories
Circling in their spaces
They needed me to overcome

Now I move in laughter

Joy is beckoned by my step
Elusive time can finally fade
The end was found
In the beginning
